A path on which we overcome obstacles

This brings us to another important point: God's way sometimes leads through the middle of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. This means that even when we face great problems or challenges, God has a way for us to walk safely.

The LORD himself says this in Isaiah 43, where it says: "Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters," (Is. 43:16).

This is exactly what the people of Israel experienced at the Red Sea. God deliberately led them down this path to an apparent dead end. Why? To demonstrate His power in them and thereby glorify Himself!

The path through the middle of the Red Sea became a great milestone in the history of the Israelites. They remembered it over and over again.

Isaiah writes in chapter 51: "Was it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over?" (Is. 51:10).

This shows: God can make even the depths of the sea become a path. That means for us that sometimes the Lord lets us have unique experiences of faith so that we can remember them later and draw courage for the future!

There are situations in life when everything seems hopeless. But Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:8: "perplexed, but not driven to despair." Where we can no longer see a way out, our great God knows both the way and the way out. We can firmly rely on that. God always has a way - even if we may not see it at the moment.

He also paves the way. He did this at the Red Sea and also later when the people of Israel passed through the middle of the Jordan.

He made sure that the large stone that blocked the entrance to the tomb where the body of the Lord Jesus had been laid was rolled away at the right time. This cleared the way for the women who came to the tomb on the Lord's resurrection day. Along the way to the tomb, they had already been wondering who would roll away the stone for them.

In Isaiah 49 it says: "And I will make all my mountains a road" (Is. 49:11). Faith can move mountains. But God can even make mountains be a path on which we can walk!

This also applies to the services or tasks that God gives us. He paves the way. He even did this with King Cyrus. The Lord chose this pagan king as an instrument to bring His people back from Babylonian captivity.

In that context, the Lord said: "I have stirred him up in righteousness, and I will make all his ways level;" (Is. 45:13). So when God gives you a task, He also paves the way for you to do it!
