How God Works (For sisters only)

"For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light." (Colossians 1:9-12)

"Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." (Hebrews 13:20, 21)

One day I knelt by my bed and prayed, “Oh, Lord, I am Your child. I am giving myself to You completely. Work in me what You want to work. Make me what You want me to be. Bring me back to a closer, more intimate relationship with Jesus as my Best Friend.”

In the days that followed I reaffirmed my commitment to God. I reminded Hirn, “Im Yours, Lord. Work in my life.”

And then, God took away my husband. Oh, not completely. Just now and then. My husband had to be gone evenings—lots of evenings, it seemed. When he was home, he was often very tired—too tired to enjoy an evening of companionship.

And people came and filled up his days with requests for his help. No time to work on projects we had hoped to complete before rainy season set in. No time to do things I wanted done around the house.

I rebelled. I feit sorry for myself. I blamed my husband. I complained. I said to myself, “I will be a martyr.”

Then I began to look, really look, at what God was doing. He was answering my prayer. He was working in me (at least He wanted me to let Hirn!). He was making me what He wanted me to be. He was bringing me back to a closer, more intimate relationship with Jesus my Best Friend.

Once again I prayed, “Oh Lord, I am Your child. Keep on working.”

“I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever” (Ecclesiastes 3:14).
