In weakness clinging to the promises of God

When I realize that I am needy, weak, and dependent on God, then I pray. The very first mention of prayer in the Bible leads us to this point. In Genesis 4:26, we read: "And to Seth, also a son was born, and he named him Enosh. At that time, people began to call upon the name of the Lord."

When did people begin to call upon the name of the Lord? When Enosh was born. What does Enosh mean? The footnote says: "weak or frail man." This is very interesting: Here, the first mention of prayer in the Bible is associated with the concept of "weak, frail man."

We are weak, frail humans—not supermen, not heroes. We have so little knowledge and life experience, we have so little strength, we have so little influence on our environment. We are weak and frail. Whoever is aware of this will pray. Whoever does not have this in mind and trusts in themselves will likely not pray.

I am convinced that we would see much more of God's glory if we took Him at His word more in this area. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Therefore, let us pray.

The Bible is full of God's promises that encourage us to take Him at His word. He gladly hears our prayers. If we seek His honor and glorification, we will be amazed at how much God will reveal Himself.

Here are some promises:

Jeremiah 33:3: "Call to me, and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."

Psalm 50:15: "Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me."

Matthew 7:7-8: "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."

James 1:5: "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt."

Take some time to search the Bible for God's promises related to prayer and begin to rely on these promises in faith when praying. God will acknowledge this.
