For sisters only - Martha’s beautiful declarations of faith

"She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world." (John 11:27)

I love the fact that it was Martha, that ever-busy, God-chided woman who was privileged to speak one of the simplest, most direct and beautiful declarations of faith in and identity of Jesus as the Messiah, our Savior. It has occurred to me in writing this that as Mary so wonderfully expressed her love and faith while kneeling to anoint Jesus’ feet, Martha did just as wonderfully as she stood with Him at her brother’s grave.

Each woman gave Him honor and proclaimed her faith according to her distinctive personality. If Martha had tried to reform herself into Mary’s sweetness, she would have been phony. And Mary transformed into Martha’s bustle and brashness is unthinkable. Both sisters loved and were loved by Jesus Christ, their Creator and Savior. God doesn’t ask us to get out of our skin; He wants us to love and serve Him in our unique personal structure — which He, after all, designed and then formed in our mother’s womb. The sisters of Bethany both beautifully illustrate that fact.
