Exercise of Heart – the Heart of the Matter!
“Jesus … saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” (Mark 2:17)
In 1742, John Wesley visited Newcastle-on-Tyne for the first time. Never, he says, had he witnessed so much drunkenness, cursing and swearing, from the mouths of little children as well as of adults, in so short a time.
"Surely," he writes, "this place is ripe for" what? judgment? no, but "for Him who came NOT to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
"When we were ENEMIES we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son" (Rom 5:10).
FIRST, may we capture the heart of the Lord Jesus! - His Mission. THEN, may our hearts also be captured and constrained by the heart of the Lord Jesus! - Our Commission.
Be greatly encouraged!
