Focus: On The Word or On The Wind?
“And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” (Matthew 14:28-31)
1) The command to come was the will of the Lord.
2) The conditions of the wind was the will of the Lord.
3) Focusing on the Word fueled Peter's Faith and he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. Right dependence, direction and destination.
4) Focusing on the Waves fueled Peter's Fear. His dependence dwindled and his direction was sinking down in the water.
5) However, in sinking, his faith focused again on the Lord - "Lord, save me".
6) The Lord's faithful response was to save him.
7) The Lord commended his faith, though little, but challenged his doubt. "O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?"
