A safe way
There are two ways in this world. There’s a broad way and there’s a narrow way. A way that leads to hell and a way that leads to heaven. There’s the way of death and the way of life.
If you’ve accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, then you can know that God has a good way for you. In the midst of the chaos of this world. In the midst of uncertainty and disorientation. In the midst of fears and worries.
God has a perfect path on which He wants to guide you personally. You can firmly trust in that!
In 2 Sam. 22:31 David says: "God - His way is perfect." But it doesn’t say only that. Two verses later it goes on to say: "He makes my way perfectly smooth" (2 Sam. 22:33, Darby translation). David experienced this himself - and this is exactly what each of us can still experience today in a very real way. Because God does not change!
We’ll now take a closer look at what this path looks like and what it entails. The path is always safe, where God is with us. Even if His way is sometimes unfathomable for us, it’s still a wise way. It’s a path where we overcome obstacles. It’s a path of blessing, that God wants to teach us.
It’s impressive how many biblical passages speak of this path. Some of them refer originally to the people of Israel; but we can also apply them to us today and thereby be strengthened in faith and take courage anew!
A safe way
God's way is a safe way. It’s a way that only the Lord exactly knows. On this path He keeps us from evil and from the attacks of the enemy.
In the Book of Job, God's way is described very beautifully: "That path no bird of prey knows, and the falcon’s eye has not seen it. The proud beasts have not trodden it; the lion has not passed over it." (Job 28:7, 8).
Today we can say: God has paved a way for His children to walk safely and with deep peace in their hearts.
God is with us on the way
Furthermore, we should know that God is with us on the path He leads us. We don’t walk this path alone. Jacob experienced this. He fled from his brother Esau to a distant land and returned many years later.
Looking back, he could say: "God who answers me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone" (Gen. 35:3). God had faithfully preserved him through all the dangers.
The Lord was also on the way with His people when they left Egypt. He accompanied them in the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire. He preserved, protected and guided them.
During the day He guided them through the pillar of cloud and at night He shone upon them in the pillar of fire, so that they could safely go on their way (see Ex. 13:21,22).
Later, on the journey through the desert, God gave Moses the wonderful promise: "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest" (Ex. 33:14).
These words have already encouraged many who had a difficult journey ahead of them. When God walks with us, we need not fear! He goes before us and holds His protective hand over us.
As it is so beautifully said in Isaiah 52:12: "For the LORD will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard" (Is. 52:12).
God also preserves us when we walk in His way and ask Him for help. When Ezra and some of the people made the challenging journey from Babylon to Jerusalem, they prayed. They fasted and humbled themselves before God. They did that in order to ask for a smooth path for themselves and their children. And God responded wonderfully.
Ezra writes in retrospect: "The hand of our God was on us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and from ambushes by the way" (Ezra 8:31).
In Proverbs 2, Solomon aptly says that the LORD is “watching over the way of His saints” (see Prov. 2:8).
