How can I overcome laziness and prayerlessness?

My first tip for you is this: Schedule fixed times for prayer. Many of us don’t pray simply because we don’t plan to pray. Wise planning will ensure that we often devote ourselves to prayer, even if it's just for short moments.

It is better to pray briefly but frequently than to pray for a long time but rarely.

Of course, someone who works shifts will have to adjust their prayer times regularly. A mother of two small children will have less energy and time than a teenager in less demanding life circumstances.

Make it a point to intentionally set aside time during the day in which you do nothing but pray - whether at home, while driving, walking, or wherever you are. It should be a “desolate” place, meaning a location where you are not distracted or hindered by things like your phone or other people.

Additionally, you can fill “dead time” with prayer. Whether you’re standing in line at the supermarket, at the bakery, in the cafeteria, or waiting at a red light - these are all great opportunities to pray.

Even in the doctor’s waiting room, or while ironing or vacuuming, you can pray. Pray for the people around you or for the burdens you carry in your heart.
