How to receive the Holy Spirit?

A very important question that many Christians ask themselves is: How do you get the Holy Spirit? Do you have to pray hard for it? Do you have to work for it? Or do you have to ask someone to lay hands on you? How does it work?

The Word of God gives us a clear answer to this important question. It says in Ephesians 1:13 in connection with Christ: “When you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.”

Here Paul makes it very clear that when we believe the gospel - that Christ has died as our substitute for our sins at the cross - we are sealed with the Holy Spirit.

With the Holy Spirit, God puts His seal on our salvation, so to speak, and says: “You belong to me now - and as proof I give you the Holy Spirit - until the day of redemption,” as Paul writes in Ephesians 4:30.

By faith in the gospel you receive the Holy Spirit. That’s Gods promise! What a grace to have a divine person dwelling in us comforting us and pointing us again and again to Christ in glory!
