The Measure of God‘s Love

“The glory which Thou hast given Me I have given them, that they may be one, as We are one; I in them and Thou in Me, that they may be perfected into one and that the world may know that Thou has sent Me, and that Thou hast loved them as Thou hast loved Me” (John 17:22-23).

THE MEASURE OF GOD’S LOVE

There is nothing more wondrous than that God can love such as we are with the same love wherewith He loves His Son. And He does so love us! I know it for myself, and I know it through His Word. He says it so that I may believe it, take it home to my heart, and enjoy it now in this world. And does He not tell us, so that knowing that He loves us will constantly guard and protect against any doubts or fears that the flesh, the world, or Satan may raise up against us? Wonderful thought! He loves us as He loves His own Son!

Do not say it is too high a thought. I know of nothing so humiliating as the facts:
1. that being so loved, we should feel it so little
2. that being so loved, we should return that love so feebly
3. that being so loved, we should yield to so much that is not in accordance with such love—cares, vanities, thoughts, or unworthy pursuits.

It is God’s desire and delight that we who are His children should enter into the greatness of His love. It should be that love, and not glory, nor any sense of it, nor any confidence in it, nor a waiting for it that should satisfy our hearts. It is a wonderful thing to think that we are to share the glory of Christ; but it is even more wonderful that we have the same love from the Father. The same God who gives us the glory of Christ will have our souls enter, even now, into the community of the same love.
