Unbroken Fellowship With Him
“The people are strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, very great…and there have we seen giants…and we were in our sight as grasshoppers, and so we were also in their sight” (Numbers 13:28,33).
The spies were constrained to admit that the land flowed with milk and honey but there was hesitation. Why? Because they were not trusting in God. They saw only the walls and the giants. They did not see Jehovah because they looked with the eye of sense and not with the eye of faith. God was left out—He never gets a place in the calculations of unbelief! It sees only walls and giants, but faith trusts God. The spies declared what they were in their own sight and in the sight of the giants—but not a word about what they were in God’s sight. Unbelief kept Israel from the promised land and sent them back to wander forty years in the wilderness.
Now, recall that these things “have been written for our admonition” (1 Cor. 10:11). The special object of this meditation is to encourage us all to a fully unqualified trust in Christ and a full life of faith. Having our solid foundation laid in the blood of Christ, it is our privilege, not only to be victorious over indwelling sin, but also to enter into the living and elevated experiences which flow from habitual fellowship with Christ. It is one thing to know that our sins are canceled by the blood of Christ; it is quite another to know that He has destroyed the power of indwelling sin; and it is still higher to live in unbroken fellowship with Him.
The enemy will seek to keep us occupied with ourselves and with the difficulties of the way. The solution is simple. It is trust! trust! trust!
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way o be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
