The First and the Last
Jesus Christ calls Himself the First and the Last. A wonderful title that appears three times in the prophet Isaiah and three times in the Book of Revelation.
The passages in the book of Isaiah show us that He is the unique, unchanging and almighty Creator and Sustainer of all things. He is the great I AM who exists in Himself.
In the Book of Revelation, we see that He has died in order to bring the ingenious plan of God to fulfillment. And as the risen victorious savior, He calls out to us:
"Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore" (Rev 1:17, 18).
He has compassion for those who are persecuted because of their faith and says: "I know your tribulation" (Rev 2:9).
At the end of the Bible, He assures us: "Behold, I am coming soon, and my recompense with me." We will receive our reward from none other than the eternal Son of God Himself. He is coming soon - because He is faithful and He keeps what He has promised!
